Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue (NNKCR) was formed by five people who had a dream that one day all adoptable dogs in Lancaster County would find loving homes.

Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill animal shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization dedicated to the relief of suffering. We rescue dogs from all over the country and specialize in long distance adoptions. We take creatures who are lost, afraid, hungry or ill and comfort them, give them a warm, soft bed, good food, medical care and most of all, love.

The Cat House was born in 1998 after a trip to a veterinary convention which included a long drive and a long discussions of what we would like to do with our lives. During the next four years, our steps have increased in size and sense of purpose.

We have a simple yet profound mission, to improve the lives of companion animals. We have done this is by creating a pet food pantry in rural Southeast Nebraska. In the future we will be conducting a traveling educational workshop for the purpose of educating the public on animal welfare.

Capital Humane Society

Capital Humane Society

What is known today as the Capital Humane Society began in 1902 as the Lancaster County Humane Society. The first shelter was located in a shed near the West 'O' Street viaduct. The Society's mission focused on the prevention of cruelty to children and horses. Around 1907 the services expanded to include a variety of animals.
